The area of Bica, is centered around the rua da Bica de Duarte Belo and traditionally extends a few blocks in both directions of the street and connects the river level rua Sao Paulo with Largo do Calhariz. The former is the gateway to Ribeira, the TimeOut market of Ribeira and Cais do Sodré, whereas Calhariz is at the entrance of Bairro Alto, Chiado and Calçada do Combro areas. The Bica funicular connects rua de Sao Paulo with Calhariz, and there are a number of alleyways connected by stairs.
