Troia is a long peninsula with approx 25km of sandy beaches with a width varying between 0.5 and 1.5km. It has been occupied since the roman times and features an archeological site that can be visited. It is home to a natural park and protected area, with limited development. It is easily reached crossing the river Sado from the city of Setubal. The area has a casino, restaurants, golf and is popular with cycling and beach activities. The atmosphere is conducive to true relaxation, with limited traffic, and nearly desert beaches. The riverside has a rich wildlife complex and is popular for long walks. The village of Comporta offers additional restaurants and beaches as well as a rice museum, which has been cultivated in the region for a long time. Should you want to explore further away, there are additional popular beaches such as Portinho da Arrabida and the nearby cities of Palmela, Sesimbra and Alcácer are well worth a visit. Lisbon is approx 45min away by car.
