Mãe de Agua is a large reservoir that collected water from the 19th century aqueduct and marks the neighborhood of Amoreiras. Still in place and surrounded by a romantic garden by the aqueduct, with centenary trees, and a esplanade, this area was the home of the Royal Silk factory and a number of additional factories (e.x. combs) in the 1700 and 1800s. With the growth of the city, it became a sought after residential area, now served with a Metro station (Rato), a number of restaurants, supermarkets, a large mall (Amoreiras), a art museum and more. A few blocks up from us you will find the Amoreiras complex, built in the 80s, which won architectural prizes and is a key feature in the skyline of the capital. A short walk away will bring you to Marques de Pombal leading to Av da Liberdade. Walking down to Rato will give you access to Principe Real and Bairro Alto neighborhoods with even more restaurants, bars and clubs to try. Be sure to try one of the best piri piri chicken restaurants- Valenciana as well to visit the Amoreiras food court. Foodies will also enjoy a visit to nearby Campo de Ourique. Amoreiras features great transportation links (2 metro stations with 5-10 min walk down from the apartment, direct tram connecting to Chiado, lots of buses, taxis etc).
